Water Conservation Advisory

Post by fic.emu »

Dear Residents,

Do you know? Our community at BITS Pilani, Pilani Campus utilizes approximately 1844+ KL of water per day. Out of which about 11+ KL are sourced from bore wells, water tankers, and RWH. The remaining 744+KL is from STP 1 & 1.5 MLDs and almost 8+KL is coming from outside water tankers.
It means, that to meet our daily water needs, we are relying on additional sources that may not be sustainable and dependable.

Globally, there is a push for sustainable water management; and India is no exception.
India is designated as "water-stressed," storing less than 10% of its annual rainfall. Uneven distribution, agricultural use, and declining monsoon seasons have made the situation worse.

A Looming Crisis: NITI Aayog, a government think tank, reports nearly 50% of India's population faces high to extreme water shortage; and by 2030, this number will be becoming very worse. Therefore, it is high time that we should start saving this precious resource.Every Drop Counts: Simple Ways to Save WaterTurn off the tap while brushing your teeth, washing your face, and shaving. Fill a mug for rinsing instead of letting the faucet run. This saves gallons of water compared to keeping it flowing.
  • Limit shower time to less than 5 minutes. & Install water-saving showerheads or flow restrictors.
  • Install water-saving showerheads or flow restrictors to reduce water usage per minute.
  • Your toilet is not a trash can! Flushing cigarette butts or sanitary napkins or tissues wastes 5-7 gallons of water per flush.
Laundry & Dishes:
  • Run your dishwasher and washing machine only when you have full loads. This reduces the number of cycles needed and saves water.
  • If you wash dishes by hand, do not leave the water running for rinsing.
Washing your car:
  • Don't Run the Hose While Washing Your Car:
    1. Fill a bucket with soapy water to wash your car. This reduces water usage significantly.
And as always, if you already adhere to these guidelines, you're an amazing community asset!
