Abstract of the talk: Smartphones are an amazing technical achievement. It’s incredible how far they have progressed over a relatively short period of time. Today, you can capture high-quality photos and 8K videos, play console-quality games, and connect to the internet at multi-gigabit cellular data rates on a sleek device that fits in your pocket and lasts all day. The first cell phones could make low-quality voice calls and… well, that’s about it. This talk provides a historical perspective on how the capabilities of these devices evolved.
