Profile of the Speaker: 

Irmtraud Hubatschek has delved into many artistic activities since her musical studies at the Mozarteum Academy; she has worked as a photographer for several institutions and curated exhibitions; as a filmmaker, she founded the production company Montagn’Arte. Since 2010 she has been running Edition Hubatschek in Innsbruck and has continued the work on Erika Hubatschek’s photo archive with new books and exhibitions. She is especially interested in combining oral history with corresponding photographs and works since several years on “WOMEN: The Alps meet the Himalayas”.

 Abstract:  
 =#ffffffThis “visual reading” aims to present rural women’s life in the Austrian mountains with
=#ffffffcomparisons to female farmer’s lives in the Himalayas. It was born out of the passion of Erika
=#ffffffand Irmtraud Hubatschek for documenting the world of mountain farmers, their life and work,
=#ffffffand sharing this through photography and interviews with contemporary witnesses. Erika
=#ffffffHubatschek focussed on Alpine farmers, whereas Irmtraud was attracted, from her teenage
=#ffffffyears, by the Himalayas.
